Almost all of the extant PianOrchestras are
fitted with a standard 6-station roll changer. For these, the
revolver part consists of two opposing cast and machined
flanges, with the six sets of fixtures that hold the music rolls
attached.
In the Style 15 PianOrchestra, the 12-station revolver portion
is quite different in construction, and consists of a "chain" of
segments, each of which holds one music roll. This 12-part
"chain" is then supported by a special widely pitched "sprocket"
wheel that guides and moves the individual segments (each
holding a music roll) into place for playing. At the bottom end
of the music roll "chain" is a large hard-rubber edged set of
wheels that further guides the whole dangling "chain" of music
rolls, keeping it vertical and clear of other nearby mechanisms.
Although quite heavy, the "chain" idea works very well, and is
as trouble free and reliable as is the standard, and much more
simple, 6-station roll changer. |
