This illustration from a German Welte
catalogue depicts a Style 5 Concert Orchestrion housed in an
unusual gothic styled case. The photograph probably dates from
the mid to late 1890s. It is unknown how many of this special
case style might have been built.
Although the majority of Welte instruments adhered to what many
enthusiasts consider its standard casework architecture, there
were many variations to this. Some of these were probably the
result of customer orders for a special and/or unique case
appearance, some instances more extreme than others, but all
were conceptually beautiful and equally majestic. |
