Figure 53. Welte 100 key Philharmonic Organ in a mahogany case with tin display pipes. This beautiful instrument contains 269 pipes. Unlike most Philharmonic organs that only have a bass drum with a small reiterating tympani beater, this organ came with a full percussion section that included a snare drum, triangle, and bass drum with tympani beaters and cymbal. While the Philharmonic Organ series of instruments is generally described as an organ, it can also be termed an orchestrion due to the percussive section embodied by this type of machine. |
