The middle-era A roll spoolbox (top and
bottom photographs) has steel side plates instead of the earlier
cast iron frames. The tracker bar is mounted forward of the roll
spools, and the roll winds from the front of the supply spool to
the front of the takeup spool. These pictures show this style
spoolbox in two different pianos, one with a roll in place and
one without.
