Engelhardt Model A Coin Piano. Introduced in the summer of 1917, available in oak or mahogany, it played 50,000 Series standard 65-note “A” rolls. Above the keydboard there were three art glass panels of simple geometric design, the center panel larger, which were lighted by electric light bulbs when the instrument was playing. Instrumentation consisted of a piano, probably a mandolin attachment, and either a 24-note xylophone or a set of 24 orchestra bells. For serviceability, the model “A” used “individual units for each pneumatic or note mechanism in the piano, each one an exact duplicate of the other, interchangeable, and each unit complete in itself, screwed to the front channel board with two screws.” |
