Engelhardt Style F Cabinet Piano. Introduced in 1918, there were five variations: (1) piano with mandolin attachment; (2) piano with mandolin attachment and a set of orchestra bells; (3) piano with mandolin attachment and xylophone; (4) piano with mandolin attachment and flute pipes; and (5) the Style F orchestrion (pictured above) with a piano, mandolin attachment, 30 wooden flute pipes, snare drum, bass drum effect (a beater hitting the piano soundboard), and cymbal. Variations 1 through 4 probably used industry standard 65-note "A" rolls. The roll type used on the Style F orchestrion is unknown. |

Interior View of the Engelhardt Style F Cabinet Piano. In the upper half of the piano the piano action is partially visible but mostly hidden behind the rank of wooden flute pipes. Unfortunately, the top portion of the photograph is missing, but a bit of what appears to be the lower rim of the cymbal can be seen at upper right. The snare drum is hidden somewhere behind the flute pipes.
The pneumatic stack is midway between the top and bottom and positioned behind the support structure for the pipework. Below the stack is the rewind type music roll mechanism mounted on a low pedestal. At right is the electric motor, with a belt drive to the feeder pump hiding behind the roll mechanism. |

Exterior View of a beautifully restored Engelhardt Style F Cabinet Piano. In the upper part of the Style F cabinet, the piano action is partially visible through the clear glass panes in the beautiful art glass panel, as well as is a rank of stopped wooden flute pipes to the front of the piano action. At upper right of the art glass panel, the partial outline of a snare drum is visible, which suggests that this is a Style F Orchestrion with a piano, mandolin attachment, wooden flute pipes, snare drum, bass drum effect (a beater hitting the piano soundboard), and a cymbal. It is unknown what type music roll this cabinet orchestrion uses. No serial number or other information is currently available. |
